Did you know that you and your veteran can compete in the
Veteran Horse Dressage League?

The Veteran Horse Society formed the Veteran Horse Dressage League in 2008,
which is specially designed for horses aged 15 and over.

Many thanks to
Kindertons Accident Management for their kind sponsorship of
the Veteran Horse Dressage Regional Rounds for the 2009 series.

This year is proving to be even more exciting, and with a new committee
taking over, there’s no better time to get involved!

Grand Final Report

The highlight of the Veteran Horse Dressage 2009 calendar took place on Saturday 14th November in the picturesque
setting of Solihull Riding Centre with a record number of entries preparing themselves for what promised to be a memorable
occasion.  Many travelled long distances to be there with competitors from Scotland and Cornwall arriving on Thursday and
Friday to ensure they were well prepared and rested!

Under the watchful eyes of Judges Simone Bentley and Gillian Rose the competition to become the National Champion for
2009 was fiercely fought.  The Preliminary section had the highest number of competitors and the combination which
emerged triumphant were Claire Shadbolt  & Sir Wims, followed closely by last year’s winners Tammy Ruffles and Sterling.
Confident displays by both combinations meant the scores were very close and the lucky winners took away some
marvellous prizes from our kind sponsor for the day, Blue Chip Feeds.

Our Junior Champion also came from this section and from the four extremely able junior riders our winner was Rebecca
Woodcock with Woodview Aloysius who demonstrated flowing paces that belied his 19 years.
In the Novice section Kerry Homer and Monarch’s Prima Donna performed a beautiful flowing test to become our Novice
Champion with Jennie Henderson and King Solomon hot on their heels.

Mid afternoon saw the final Elementary competitors warming up to the steady tap, tap of the rain.  The weather did not
dampen their spirits though ad once again the ‘on form’ Kerry Homer and Monarch’s Prima Donna produced a superb test
to take the Elementary title.  They return home with two smart rugs emblazoned with the famous Blue Chip logo and
countless other prizes.  The reserve champion went to Catriona Goulding with a horse living up to his name, Lucky Miller,
who will be wearing his Blue Chip saddle cloth with pride!

The adverse weather conditions and traffic problems failed to suppress an exciting and climatic end to the Veteran Horse
Dressage Series 2009.  All finalists received a beautiful rosette sponsored by Tammy Ruffles and Sandale Equestrian with
our placing rosettes kindly sponsored by Bruce Starke & Co Ltd, Express Equine and Aviform Ltd.  Veteran Horse
Dressage would lie to say a huge thank you to Blue Chip Feeds for their generous support of our national Final and
donation of such super prizes, sashes and rosettes.

Lastly we would like to thank all our members for their support throughout the year, we are a new committee and our still
finding our feet so keep your ideas and suggestions coming in, we’re always glad of advice!  We hope that those of you
who joined us this year will continue to support the society and enjoy your veteran horse during their golden years.  We
hope to see you all again next year – stay tuned for new 2010 dates and venues!
